Nestled in a peaceful corner of the world, this quaint escape is evocative of simpler times and the perfect place to unwind and embrace the seasons. Phoebe’s Cottage is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom country cottage set on half an acre of cottage gardens, tucked away between Daylesford and Trentham in the rural village of Lyonville.

The cottage was built as part of the early Lyonville timber milling settlement in 1875 and inhabited by its namesake and early owner Phoebe Elliott and her young family. It has since been passed between generations of local owners for over 145 years.

 

Enchanting and lovingly restored, Phoebe’s Cottage is a magical retreat where you can live slow and immerse yourself in the sleepy, pastoral surroundings of the Daylesford and Macedon regions. While the cottage offers guests a nostalgic, old-world charm, the comforts are entirely modern and invite opportunities for leisurely indulgence and easy contemplation. 

 

The interiors have been lovingly styled by Belle Hemming from Belle Bright Project, using many of the original cottage features and a mix of carefully curated vintage and quality contemporary finishes. The result is a moody and subtle interior with warm, cosy, and inviting spaces. Comfort with style is at the forefront of any stay at Phoebe’s. Enjoy the ambient wood heater, cast iron claw-foot bath, and luxuriously comfortable beds, not to mention modern creature comforts, such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a coffee machine, and well-appointed kitchen.

 

Outdoors, Phoebe’s Cottage offers a charming outdoor country-cottage style garden, that lends itself to the unique climate of Lyonville, featuring established trees and views to nearby Mount Babbington and the Wombat Forest. In summer, guests can spend lazy afternoons reclining on the lawns in the sun-drenched gardens or the shade of the established walnut trees, with lawn games or late afternoon drinks.

 

Take a stroll through Lyonville’s shady lanes and stumble on local market stalls, stop for a drink at the famous Radio Springs Hotel or explore the tranquil bush land before ending your day with a long bath and glass of red by the fire. However you choose to relax, Phoebe’s Cottage is the ideal setting for an unhurried and memorable stay.

It's beautifully put together, absolutely everything we needed was already there (an espresso machine!) and all the comfy, warm, cozy places to nestle in with a warm drink...heaven. I really can't fault it. Favourites included the wood fire with huge basket of dry wood, huge thick bath towels, soft linen bed spreads, huge claw foot bath, beautiful garden, crunchy gravel paths - it was like staying in a dream.
